In a notable development, the number of 3G/4G users in Pakistan experienced a decline of 0.51 million from the end of October to the end of November 2023, according to data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The total count of 3G and 4G users decreased from 126.92 million at the end of October to 126.24 million by the end of November. This shift is indicative of changing trends in mobile service preferences among consumers.
Furthermore, the cellular teledensity witnessed a decrease from 79.32 percent in October to 78.98 percent in November, contributing to an overall decrease in total teledensity from 80.4 percent to 80.06 percent during the same period.
Next Generation Mobile Service (NGMS) penetration also experienced a dip, decreasing from 53.05 percent at the end of October to 52.68 percent by the end of November, highlighting a shift in the adoption of advanced mobile services.
Examining specific telecom operators, Jazz saw a decline in both 3G and 4G users. The total count of Jazz’s 3G users dropped from 3.731 million in October to 3.569 million in November, while 4G users decreased from 43.172 million to 42.754 million during the same period.
Zong experienced a decrease in 3G subscribers from 2.320 million to 2.265 million by the end of November. However, the number of 4G users increased slightly from 33.797 million to 33.869 million.
Telenor faced a decrease in both 3G and 4G users, with 3G subscribers dropping from 2.567 million to 2.477 million, and 4G users decreasing from 23.240 million to 23.196 million.
Ufone recorded a decline in 3G users from 2.352 million to 2.230 million but saw an increase in 4G users from 14.228 million to 14.349 million by the end of November.
